| ROMAN THE BRITTANY
CGC, TDI
|
Roman was approximately 4 or 5 years old when we got him in February 1999. He is a wonderful companion and has done very well with his obedience training, but everything goes out the window when he sees cats, squirrels, or other small, furry creatures. He loves to be outside, but is content to watch from our sliding glass door most of the time.
Kathy is now involved with American Brittany Rescue and is the coordinator for Delaware and helps with New Jersey. She and Greg have fostered a few rescue dogs, so Roman has a brother or sister every once in a while. Roman's original foster mom, Andie, also has a website dedicated to her brittany, Marcus, who helped Roman get back in shape after his long stay at the shelter. Visit Andie Lee's website.

UPDATE!!:
On November 14th, 1999, Roman passed his Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test, as well as is Therapy Dogs International (TDI) evaluation (below). We plan to take him to the Ronald McDonald house to visit patients and their families in their pet program there. Roman has been working on his repertoire of tricks so that he can entertain everyone and is always eager to work for food! Greg simply enjoys Roman's companionship and loves to make him "smile" (below).
Roman is a pretty spoiled little guy, since he's our "baby", but he always cleans his bowl, the floor, and anywhere else this "food hound" can find some tidbits. About the only thing he won't eat is raw fruits and vegetables unless they are extremely well disguised. His favorite foods are pork products - he goes wild for a tidbit of ham and will try every trick he knows to get one. He acts like such a clown when he tries to "shake", "roll over", "speak", etc.
3/12/00 Roman has been visiting with families at Ronald McDonald House every other week. We all enjoy sharing some of the joy we have in our family with the families who are staying at the house. It seems that everyone can use a little "pet therapy".

6/30/00 Roman completed his first Agility class at the end of May and seems to really enjoy the classes. I plan to take him to the Intermediate level and see how he does with the off-leash work, then maybe we'll decide about competition.

8/9/00
Roman has been busy this summer - everything from swimming in the
lake at the local park (even paddling after some unsuspecting ducks!) to
practicing agility at the Anthracite Brittany Club Picnic in PA.

Most
recently, Roman had a chance to try out his hunting skills when Barbara and
Jay Hopper took us out with them while they were training their own brittanys.
They use chukars, a type of bird that is similar to a partridge, but
comes from the midwest. First, Roman held a nice point, but the bird
was already dead, so he didn't get much action. The second one flew
out of range, but Roman chased it down and came trotting back with his trophy.
However, he was pretty hot by that time, so he decided to take a dip
in the water (and took his dead bird with him)! Greg and Kathy had
almost as much fun as Roman, so maybe this will be another hobby for the
family to pursue.
11/18/00 - Roman has a new sibling, an 8-year old brittany named Sebastian. He seems to be enjoying the company although he does get jealous sometimes. Click here for Sebastian's page.
11/4/01- Roman has been enjoying our new home and fenced backyard. He does enjoy surveying his "kingdom" from the perch of the playhouse, and even enjoys peeking out the window sometimes.
