RECENT NEWS:
11/2/04 - Since Greg is now staying home part-time with Anya, we have started a new home-based business selling pet products from a company called Shure Pets. It is actually a home party plan for pet products (like Mary Kay, but for pets!), but we actually do lots of tables/booths at various dog shows and pet-related events. We have set up a new website called PikeCreekPets.com to promote the business.
1/28/04 - We decided to purchase an a-frame popup camper to make our camping expeditions a bit more comfortable. We chose a Chalet Aspen made by Chalet RV which we purchased from a dealer in Marysville, PA. It has a sofa on one end and a small dinette on the other, each of which convert into beds.
6/30/03 - We adopted a German Shorthaired Pointer on 6/14/03 and named her "Chena" after a beautiful place we visited in Alaska.
5/26/03 - We just returned from a weekend in West Virginia where we enjoyed some hiking with Anya and Roman in tow. We went camping at Cape Henlopen State Park in Delaware the weekend before. Anya is learning to like the outdoors already!
5/1/03 - Sadly, Sebastian crossed the Rainbow Bridge. He had been suffering from laryngeal paralysis for some time, but he could barely breathe anymore. He was a wonderful dog and will always have a place in our hearts.
"Baby Knappenberger" was due February 23, 2003 but she arrived a little early, born 2/12/03. I felt great through most of the pregnancy and we kept busy with fixing up the house and decorating the nursery in preparation for our new family member. Click HERE to check out some photos and notes about us during my pregnancy. We named our new baby "Anya" and she now has her own webpage, so click HERE to see photos and information about her.
About Us:
We have been living in Wilmington, Delaware since early 1997. In September 2001 we bought a single home in Pike Creek, so now we have a nice big fenced yard for our brittanys to stretch their legs. It's a big improvement over walking them 4x per day while we lived in our townhouse!
We also installed an invisible fence to make sure our dogs don't try to dig around the fence or escape. Roman was a very quick learner, but he also tests the boundaries and would surely not be contained by an invisible fence alone. In the spring and summer of 2002 we had our first vegetable garden (with TOO MANY ZUCCHINIS!!) and we improved the landscaping by building stone walls to make borders around the edge of the fenced yard. In the fall of 2002, we completed the effect (at least for now) by resurfacing the patio with a flagstone design and building stone borders around it.
We have been very involved with "doggie stuff" including volunteering with American Brittany Rescue and also recently with Mid-Atlantic German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue. Kathy is also a distributor for an all-natural pet food called Flint River Ranch by running a website to sell the food (http://www.healthydogfood.com). Now the commissions are enough to pay for our dogs' food and a donation to American Brittany Rescue. We now have a second home-based business selling pet products from Shure Pets at "home parties" like Tupperware or Mary Kay. We do a lot of our business on the weekends at various dog-related events and also operate a website for the business at http://www.pikecreekpets.com.
Our interests include traveling and outdoor activities (often in combination), which you will appreciate if you visit the other pages of our website. One of our favorite destinations is the state of Maine, although we have not been there recently since we used much of our vacation time going to Alaska in September 2000.
More about us:
Greg worked at the Vanguard Group for three years, after which he has worked for a few different companies. He is presently working as a Trade Customer Service Representative at AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals as a contract worker. He graduated from Kutztown University in August 1998 with a Business Administration-Management degree.
Kathy works at AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals as a bioscientist in their research labs. In January 2004 she received her Master of Science in Molecular Biology at Lehigh University through their satellite network. She graduated from Lafayette College with a B.S. in Biology in June 1996. At Lafayette, she conducted a variety of research projects that studied the effects of a parasitic flatworm on their snail hosts.
We were married in January 1997 and moved to Wilmington shortly after that, but not before taking an impromptu honeymoon to Spain.
We both grew up in or near Allentown, PA, where our families still reside. In fact, we were in the same kindergarten class before we "met" each other again in high school!
