CHENA
|
6/25/03 -- Chena is a German Shorthaired Pointer (GSP), approximately 3-4 years old, who joined our family on June 14th, 2003. We adopted her through Mid-Atlantic German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue. She was found as a stray near Parkersburg, WV and wound up in a shelter there. She had a bit of a rough time since she came down with kennel cough, but with some loving care from her foster home, she recovered well. She is now a very spunky dog who is keeping Greg in shape by going on daily walks. She is very gentle with people and just loves to sniff and lick Anya. She was previously an "outside dog" and was not housebroken, but is doing pretty well in the house already. She was probably someone's hunting dog since she responds to "whoa" and retrieves to hand. She is also quite striking when she goes on point.
We named her Chena after the Chena River and Chena Hot Springs in Alaska, where we visited in September, 2000. It was a beautiful area to visit, and seemed a fitting name for a beautiful dog. We also now joke when Chena has an "accident" in the house that she wants to be like the "Hot Springs" in Alaska!
Chena and Roman get along reasonably well, though Chena has become dominant over Roman. She is somewhat possessive of bones and chew toys, and gives a little growl when Roman gets too close. The two of them already running around the yard together and generally seem to enjoy each other's company (though not any rough playing).
