Cape Henlopen State Park

Lewes, Delaware

5/17/03

Camping at Cape Henlopen was a little different this year.  The weather was still cold and damp, but at least we remembered a bow saw to cut up the "logs" we "found" on our campsite so we didn't have to feed a whole tree into our fire!   This year Roman came along on the trip, but didn't look too thrilled to be spending the day outside given the dreary day.  Anya, on the other hand, didn't seem to mind one bit since she spent most of the day bundled up in a fleece blanket and always had someone willing to hold her and keep her warm by the campfire.  I'd say her first camping trip (at 3 months of age!) was a success, even if it was only overnight.

A stormy morning on the beach

5/16/02

We camped overnight at Cape Henlopen with Terry Trego and Holly Mohler.  It was very chilly and had rained hard the night before so everything was damp.  So, we spent from about 3 pm until bedtime huddled around the campfire, roasting marshmallows, and playing card games.  Not exactly what we hoped for from a beach vacation, but we had a blast!  Since the campfire was going so long, we were concerned about having enough wood.  So, Terry and Greg found a rotted tree on our site that they fed into the fire.  Next time, somebody please remember to bring a saw!!  Terry insisted that it was perfectly fine to feed a tree into the campfire, and had done so many times as a scout!

Later in the evening the weather cleared and we even got some pretty colors in the sunset.  We played a few good games of  Sequence, and Kathy and Holly emerged as the victorious team, so a dance of triumph was in order!

The next morning we enjoyed a nice walk on the beach and came across some people surf-fishing.
