Expecting Baby Knappenberger

11/6/02

We finally decided that we were ready to start a family, but little did we know it would happen so quickly.  I got pregnant the first month we started trying and things have been a bit of whirlwind since then.  Between trying to finish my Master's degree thesis and reading all about pregnancy and babies, not to mention all of the house projects we have been doing, we have hardly had a spare moment to relax.

An ultrasound was done at 16 weeks, and one of the photos is shown below.  Everything appeared normal, and all of the tests have come back normal as well.  So we keep our fingers crossed for a healthy, happy baby.   We could not tell if it is a boy or a girl, so we will have to be surprised!  In the picture below, the baby's head is to the left and torso is to the right.  You can see little hands/arms and also the baby's heart and spine.

I have felt really good through most of the pregnancy so far, only a little tired at the beginning, but no morning sickness. Although we could see the changes happening to my body, it was not until around 5 months (see photo below), that people started to notice that I was beginning to look pregnant.  And even then, depending on what I was wearing, some people could hardly believe that I was already that far along.

Well, I'm now 30 weeks along and it seems like I've been pregnant forever!  But at the same time, my due date is only 10 weeks away, and it seems like 2.5 months is a very short time to get prepared for the baby's arrival.

We did have a second ultrasound in November, although the circumstances were less than desirable.  I was rear-ended in my Explorer and when I went to get checked out at the hospital I started having contractions and had to stay 2 nights at the hospital while they gave me medication to stop the contractions.  The good news is that the ultrasound showed that everything looked normal and I have generally been feeling good since then.  We also found out that we are probably having a girl!!  Below is a photo from the ultrasound showing the baby's head in profile.

In the last two months or so, I have really started to feel the baby moving and kicking, especially when music is playing.  It is sometimes a very strange feeling, but it is reassuring that the baby is so active.  Below is another photo of me taken on 12/1, when I was just over 6 months along.

Here is a photo of me on our 6th anniversary (Jan. 4th), all dressed up to go out to dinner. At this point I was getting pretty uncomfortable, and getting a good night's sleep was increasingly challenging.

And finally, here is a photo taken when I was 8.5 months pregnant, which turned out to be only 3 days before I went into labor.  Click here to see photos of our new baby girl!
